A Prayer for Peace and Clarity When You Feel Stuck

23 Feb

prayer for todayHey again!

So I’ve told y’all several times before that I pray a lot; like A LOT, A LOT. Partly because I was raised in church (there every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from birth until adulthood), and partly because I just feel better when I do. I told a friend that I wanted to start doing prayer posts on here too since it’s such a big part of my lifestyle. I’ve done a few before but never with the intention to keep them ongoing. Sooo, here’s one of more to come…

Recently I had dinner with this super awesome girl who’s a few years older than me. She was saying how her late 20s were super rough but life started stabilizing again when she entered her early 30s. Another girl who’d joined us, also in her early 30s, shared the same experience. I had heard this before from several other women, one being Melanie Fiona at a private girl talk event I went to about two years ago.

Everything they were saying was so me in the moment. The best way I can describe the feeling is like those movies where a car winds up in a muddy puddle and the driver is trying to ram out by pressing on the gas. While the wheels are vigorously spinning and spinning and spinning, the car just won’t budge. It’s putting up its best fight to get out, but it’s stuck. If things are super crappy, the car may even sink further into the mud.

Stuck can mean different things for different people. For me, at this moment at least, it means no longer satisfied. Grateful I am for everything that I’ve accomplished. If you would have told me in grad school that I would soon score the cover story for my very first issue as a writer, meet and interview Kerry Washington or guest appear on The Dr. Oz Show I would have been like, whaaaaaaat!? Not that I didn’t see those things in my future, but I didn’t see them happening so quickly.

And it hit me that the quickness was part of my stuck in the mud feeling. With all that God blessed me to accomplish, it happened so fast and I found myself at this place of, “Okay, what’s next?” After I’d done a few red carpets or covered NYFW, the excitement dwindled and I needed another challenge (I was about to write “another hit” but then realized how druggie it sounded, lol!). Essentially, I wanted more substance, more fulfillment.

Whether you’re a student or a teacher or an editor or mechanic, maybe you feel the same. “There’s gotta be more,” you may find yourself whispering.

Things felt, and still feel at times, very mundane. To poof be gone the pesky feeling, I did what I always do and prayed. Peace and Clarity are the two things I probably ask God for the most right now. Peace for the moment, and clarity for what’s next. I don’t know your story, but if you’re in your late 20s/early 30s and trying to figure out how to gracefully transition into real adulthood, because we all know that your 20s is very much play-play adulthood, then this may bring you some sun. I can honestly say it’s helped me more than I imagined.

Dear God,

I come to You asking that You first purify my being. Let me feel You and hear You now, and for the moments to come.

I ask You for peace. Quiet all the sounds that are not of You. Mute all stress and despair, and replace it with peace. Peace to accept the lessons You’ve chosen for me, even when they’ re hard to bare. Make this peace everlasting so that I can always find Your calmness in my spirit and rest.

Grant me clarity. Show me what’s next and what You have assigned me to do. Give my heart and spirit clear direction. Let me feel Your tugging so that there is no mistaking where I should go and what I should do. Lead me to the tasks You’ve called me to fulfill and rid the sideline distractions.

Thank You for all that You’ve done, all that You’re doing, all that You’re going to do. Thank You in advance for bringing me out of this and making me a better, stronger human because of it.

Amen.

Love you guys much and as always thanks for reading! Hope that this prayer helps in some kind of way. Know that transitioning is completely normal and there’s always sun after the storm. And don’t forget that it’s rarely as bad as we think. Hang in there and focus on the positive!

❤ ,
