How To Fight Fear

how to fight fearHey Lovies ❤

Fighting this horrible, annoying cold but it could be worse, so hey! Wanted to write a little about fear today because obviously it’s something we all deal with–even the biggest and bravest of us. I’m in the process of planning an event to take my brand to the next level, and, wait for it… I’M SCUUURRED! I’ve known it was something I needed to do for a while and I kept putting it off to make sure everything was aligned. But after coming to the realization that not every single, minute detail is going to come together right away, and after taking my own advice via “The Year of Execution,” I decided to stop prolonging and get the ball rolling. All of these fears, or False Evidence Appearing Real as my sister likes to remind me, that try to creep up and whisper nonsense in my had to be silenced. I’m still a little spooked, but not like I was a few days ago and certainly not to the point where I’m stuck in place. My whole brand, from my internal essence to the material I put out, is centered around self-love. Part of self-love is loving yourself enough to conquer your fears so that you can go after all that you want and deserve. I knew that I owed it to myself and anyone else looking to me for inspiration to master this concept, so I leaned on these little nuggets for help. They really got me to a more confident place and hopefully they do the same for you!

Confront it: We’re always told to confront our fears, and for good reason. Without another thought, simply confront the thing that’s terrifying you. In my instance with this whole event planning process, one of my biggest fears was picking up the phone and asking people to participate. The fear didn’t relinquish with time, it just grew stronger. That only messed with my head, and the fact remained that I still hadn’t reached out to the people I needed to for my event. So, I picked up the phone, nerves running like feral children, and called. And guess what? I’m alive! Hush the stories in your head long enough to confront your fears head-on, and when you do, you’ll find yourself more empowered and a little less scared.

Know that “bad” isn’t all that bad: If you’re anything like me, you think about all these possible bad outcomes before you even take the leap. What if people don’t come? What if my guests say no? I had, and still have, all these thoughts. Don’t psyche yourself out, though! If only the still air and I showed up and every guest laughed at my request, it would suuuuuuuck. BUT, I would survive, learn from the experience, and do it better the next time! That’s the very, very worst that could happen. In perspective, that isn’t all that bad. Whatever you’re scared to do, you have to know that even the worst possible outcome isn’t all that bad. The true bummer would be if you didn’t even give yourself a shot and refused to try because you couldn’t get over all the “what if’s?”.

Trust in you and, most importantly, in Him: Whitney’s “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” will forever be one of my faves! We don’t give ourselves enough credit sometimes. We’ve all weathered storms, and clearly we’re all still here because we’re reading this. The human spirit is a true wonder. We endure illness, grief and trauma, and we still make it out. Trust in that, that supernatural strength that lives inside of you. We’re far more strong, intelligent and brave than we know. If you’ve made it this far, you possess all that you need to conquer whatever your fear is. More importantly, trust God. Cece Winans has a song “His Strength is Perfect” that I also love. She sings, “His strength is perfect when our strength is gone.” When you can’t muster up the fight, know that He can. There’s no need to fear or worry about all the things that could go wrong because He is never-failing. We’re talking about the same Man who turned water into wine for Pete’s sake. I’m sure He can handle my brand launch, your fears and your cousin Spanky’s too. Move forward trusting in yourself and trusting in Him.

Here’s to fighting fears because we’re worthy of it all!

❤ you lots,

Essy

Essence, this post is absolutely AWESOME and confirms that YEP, YOU ROCK (LOL)!!! Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and just ask. Sometimes friends won’t support you, sometimes family will look at you like you’re crazy but know that the universe is ALWAYS on our side. I’ve found myself in so many situations that GOD had already worked out on the back end. All I had to do was show up and in some cases all I had to do was ASK. Your help may not always come from the ones you think it should, but it always come to those that believe. So proud of you for stepping out on faith, knocking fear on it’s back and giving the world a kickass Essence Of……platform! Wishing you an EPIC 2015!
